October 5, 2025: The ATA confirmed through their website that, beginning October 6, teachers would begin a province-wide strike.
October 3, 2025: As of today, a strike is highly likely, and families are being advised that schools will be closed to students in the event a strike does occur on October 6. While further talks are possible before the October 6 deadline, it is currently unclear when ATA and TEBA will return to the bargaining table. In the event of a strike, the government has announced a parent payment program for families with children aged 12 and under, and learning resources for students in Kindergarten through Grade 12.

September 29, 2025: ATA members voted on a Memorandum of Agreement between September 27 and 29. On September 29, following the close of voting, the ATA announced that 89.5% of teachers voted to reject the Memorandum of Agreement.
September 10, 2025: The Alberta Teachers’ Association (ATA) announced that if a negotiated settlement between the ATA and the Teachers’ Employer Bargaining Association (TEBA) is not achieved, a province-wide teacher strike will commence on Monday, October 6. Between today and October 6, bargaining is expected to continue between the ATA and TEBA.
June 10, 2025: The Alberta Teachers’ Association (ATA) announced that teachers and school administrators across the province voted in favour of a strike.
Bargaining between Teacher Employer Bargaining Association (TEBA) and the ATA occurs centrally at the provincial level. This means that all decisions regarding a provincial collective agreement are made provincially, not by individual school boards.
At the PRSD, we deeply value all of our staff and the incredible contributions they make to student success each and every school day. We respect the bargaining process and remain hopeful that TEBA and the ATA are able to conclude the bargaining process as soon as possible so that a new collective agreement can be implemented without any disruption in educational services.
The ATA includes more than 46,000 certificated members across Alberta. The ATA is divided into 55 local bargaining units. The Greater Peace Local 13, comprises members of the ATA employed by the PRSD. This includes certificated employees including teachers, substitute teachers, assistant principals and principals.
A strike is a legal work stoppage by employees to pressure their employer to agree to their terms and conditions of employment.
A lockout is a work stoppage initiated by the employer. It is the employer's equivalent of a strike and may involve the closing of schools.
If a full strike is called, our schools will be closed to students. We would notify families immediately via our website, email, and social media channels.
We are committed to providing you with as much notice as possible. Your school’s website, and the Peace River School Division’s website are the best places for the most accurate information. We will also send out email notifications to all families, and share information on our official social media accounts. Please ensure your contact information is up to date with the school.
Teacher-led instruction, whether in-person or online, will cease during a full strike.
We do not have a timeline for the strike. We will update you on our Labour Action webpage on our website as we learn more information. We will also use school websites and email to communicate more urgent messages.
Teachers will not be providing new work to do during a strike because they are not working during that time. The Alberta Government has provided a toolkit of resources for parents to access. This toolkit is available here: https://curriculum.learnalberta.ca/pt/en/home
If students forget items at school that are needed at home, school office managers are able to help you to get into the school to get those items. You can call your school directly to arrange a time to pick up your items.
Teachers and school administrators are directed by the Alberta Teachers’ Association not to work during a strike. Work would include answering phone calls, text messages, and emails.
Yes, we intend to maintain community access through support staff. This will be reassessed on an ongoing basis based on operational capacity.
Unfortunately, in the event of a strike, we will need to suspend all Peace River School Division student activities, including school athletics and practices.
All school council meetings are suspended during a strike.
Dual credit and RAP programs that have already started can continue. Green Certificate and work experience programs are temporarily suspended, at this time.
